Universal Life Insurance in Mesquite

This is permanent coverage where the payment can bend when your income does. Before you apply, we lay out the guaranteed and projected numbers side by side. Once the policy is active, we call each year to confirm it is still funded the way you planned.

Lifelong Coverage That Can Flex

Universal life lasts your whole life and gives you a say in how you fund it. You pick the death benefit, and within the carrier's limits you can raise or lower what you pay each year. Every payment goes first to the monthly insurance charge and fees, and the rest builds cash value that earns interest.

People choose it for that flexibility, and that same flexibility is why it has to be watched. The insurance cost inside the policy climbs with age. Years of minimum payments plus low interest credits can empty the cash value and let the policy lapse. We build the plan around that risk and keep checking it.

It fits people who want coverage beyond a term, want room to vary payments, or run a business with uneven income. If the need ends on a set date, such as when children are grown or a loan is gone, term life usually costs less, and we will tell you so.

How We Help You

We start with your situation
No numbers get run until we ask about your spouse, children, debts and how long coverage needs to last. Those answers decide the death benefit instead of a figure pulled from thin air.
Illustrations in plain terms
Carrier illustrations show two columns: what the policy guarantees and what it could do if current rates last. We read every line with you, including the picture if interest stays low, so you see the worst case before signing.
A payment you can stick with
We help you choose a payment that keeps the policy funded, not the smallest one the carrier will take. Paying the bare minimum is how most of these policies run into trouble.
Beneficiaries and riders set up
We review every beneficiary line with you and explain riders such as a no-lapse guarantee or accelerated benefits in everyday language.
An annual review
Every year we read your statement with you, checking the cash value, the charges and whether your payment still keeps the policy going as long as you intended.

When Universal Life Makes Sense

  • A term policy is running out

Your term is close to its end date, yet a spouse or children still lean on your paycheck. Universal life can keep coverage going for as long as you live.

  • Your income swings

If you earn commission, run a seasonal business or work for yourself, the same payment every month can be a strain. With universal life you can put in extra during strong months and pull back in slow ones, within limits.

  • Whole life costs more than you want to pay

You want permanent coverage, but whole life premiums are more than your budget allows. A universal life policy built for a set death benefit often costs less.

  • You own a policy you haven't looked at in years

Older universal life policies were often sold with interest assumptions that never came true. If you haven't read your annual statement lately, it's worth a look before the cash value runs thin.

  • Your business depends on you

Partners or a key employee would be in a bind without you. Permanent coverage can help fund a buyout or cover the gap while the business adjusts.

The Steps From First Call Onward

  1. 1

    We talk by phone

We cover your family, debts, budget and how long you want to be insured. There is no pressure, and if term or whole life suits you better, we tell you.

  2. 2

    Side-by-side illustrations

We gather illustrations from several carriers and review each line with you. You see the guaranteed figures, the projected figures and the payment that keeps the policy sound.

  3. 3

    Applying and underwriting

You answer health questions, and some policies call for a brief medical exam. Underwriting tends to take a few weeks, and we update you and handle the carrier's follow-up requests.

  4. 4

    Reviewing the issued policy

Once it is issued, we go through it together and show you how to read the yearly statement and the two or three figures to watch.

  5. 5

    Yearly follow-up

Each year we look at the statement with you. If rates fell, your income shifted or you added a beneficiary, we adjust the plan while problems are still small.

What Drives Your Premium

The carrier sets universal life pricing, and two people buying the same coverage can be quoted far apart. We walk through each factor so your quote makes sense to you. Quotes come by phone, with every number explained.

Age and health when you apply
The policy's internal insurance charge is set by your age and health at the time you apply. Buying sooner holds that charge down for years. Tobacco use raises it steeply.
Size of the death benefit
A bigger payout means a bigger monthly cost. We match it to what your family would really need.
How much you put in
Paying more than the minimum grows cash value and cushions the policy when charges rise later. Paying only the minimum keeps the bill low now but adds risk later on.
Kind of universal life
Guaranteed, current-assumption and indexed universal life each carry their own pricing. Some aim for a locked benefit, others for growing cash value.
Optional riders
Extras such as a no-lapse guarantee, waiver of premium or child coverage add to the cost. We flag the ones worth paying for in your case and skip the others.

Universal Life Questions People Ask

Something not covered here? (972) 645-2634

How is universal life different from whole life?

With whole life, the payment is fixed for good and cash value builds on a guaranteed schedule. Universal life lets you change your payment and, inside set limits, the death benefit, while its cash value earns a rate that moves up or down. You give up some certainty to gain room to adjust, so it needs a regular look.

What happens when the cash value hits zero?

Your coverage can end. Rising charges or underfunded payments can use up the cash value, and once it is gone the policy stops unless you add money. A no-lapse guarantee rider keeps coverage active as long as you make the required payments. We go over your figures every year so a shortfall is caught early.

Can I skip a payment?

In most cases. If the cash value is large enough, it can cover the policy's charges for a while. That tends to draw the cash value down, so we show you what a missed payment would do before you skip one.

Am I able to borrow against the cash value?

Once enough cash value has built up, most universal life policies allow a loan or a withdrawal. A loan left unpaid reduces the death benefit and raises the chance of a lapse. We go over what it would do with you beforehand.

Can you look at an older universal life policy I already own?

Yes. We read your latest statement with you and ask the carrier for an in-force illustration showing how long coverage lasts at your current payment. Then you can keep it as is, put in more or look at other options.
